"Mommy, can we have a brown baby? Kedren has a white baby sister, so can I have a brown baby sister?" Um, what do you say to that?! April 25, 2013, we filled out the pre-application to start the adoption process for our second adopted child. Did we do this because Coyer asked us? No. We knew that God was laying adoption on our hearts once again and when Coyer asked us this question, we knew that was confirmation from God. This also told us that our children were ready to grow our family too! We did a lot of praying on what agency we wanted to work with and after talking with a few, we chose New Horizon Adoption Agency out of Blue Earth, MN. It took me about one night to fill out the pre-application, because when I'm excited, I can get anything done fast 😉 At this time, we chose not to share our news with family and friends until we began the home study process. We did start talking with our kids though and shared every step with them. We wanted this adoption process to be something we shared as a family. A way for Coyer to understand his adoption and "how it worked." His little mind had TONS of questions and this was the perfect way for him to learn all about how God worked through his adoption story too! We began to pray as a family for our future child, explaining to the kids that we would not know if God would bring our family a boy or a girl. We did know though that we would be adopting an African American child, as this is something we wanted for Coyer as well. We wanted both of our adopted children to grow up feeling like they were "not alone" or the "only one" that looked different. Coyer maybe convinced us a little bit to adopt a "brown baby" too 😉 With Full Hands and an Open Heart- Kansas Fergen
