Over the next 3 months we took the steps needed to complete our adoption paperwork, get physicals, get fingerprinted, have background checks, and seek financial assistance for our adoption. We learned there were many amazing organizations that offered financial assistance and grants for those adopting. We applied for several grants in hopes we would be chosen and receive some aid. God brought many people into our path during this time and we were blown away by the support we received. This was something we never expected but were reminded of God's faithfulness and how we would not go through this process alone. On February 7, 2008, our home study was complete and on February 20 we became a waiting family. Becoming a waiting family meant our profile book would be shown to birthmothers and birth families that were interested in having us be the parents of their child(ren). This time period was exciting and nerve racking all at the same time. Thoughts raced through our minds, “What were they going to think about us? What were they NOT going to like about us? What were they going to think about our hobbies? What were they going to think about our families?” So many thoughts ran through our minds, knowing one picture could be the "make or break" of whether or not they chose us to be the parents of their child was sometimes overwhelming. We tried to keep ourselves busy and not think about it, but we’d would be lying if we said it wasn't ALWAYS on our minds. Even though we knew it could be a LONG road ahead, what expectant parents don’t get excited and have high hopes? We were expecting, just in a different way. We continued to be in prayer for our little one and the birthparents as the looked through profile books. We focused on praying for their health, daily needs during pregnancy, and that God would walk with them during the decisions they too would have to make through this process With Full Hands and an Open Heart- Kansas Fergen
