The next morning we went to our agency to finish the final paperwork and learn more about Coyer’s story before he arrived with Peggy. When he arrived he was so happy and crawled ALL over the place. I'll admit, this is NOT how I thought our adoption story would unfold. Never did I think I would become a mom to a child that was already mobile and babbling. I just assumed we would adopt a newborn and I would have time to "phase into" this mom thing. I was wrong and was TOTALLY okay with that 😉 I mean, what first-time mom wouldn't be okay with still sleeping through the night? 🙌🏻 We were able to spend some alone time with Coyer and took him out for lunch. It was so surreal sitting at a table as a family of 3 trying to figure out how to eat and entertain a toddler at the same time. This was reality. This is what life was going to look like. We spent time calling family and shared pictures with them! After talking with my parents they told us that they wanted like to fly down to Texas to meet their first grandchild and drive back with us. We were SO excited and couldn't wait for them to meet Coyer. A day later, they were on a plane! We told them to call us once they arrived and we would take them to the foster home to meet Coyer. Well, we were maybe telling a little white lie 😉 Instead we surprised them at the airport with Coyer. I'll NEVER forget the look on their faces as they saw him for the first time! Tears, I still have tears writing this. He went straight to them and loved their attention, which was good because this was only the start of what was to come for him! That night we enjoyed time as a family, giving him his first bath (by us), reading books, and playing. It was perfect. Peggy let us have some time so we could bond and start our nightly routine. I just couldn't wait to get home and start our "normal" and for him to grow up in our family! We made plans for the days to come and waited for state clearance to take him home, which we knew could take several days. We figured while we were there we’d take in as much as possible and learn about the state of Texas and where he was born. With Full Hands and an Open Heart- Kansas Fergen
